| The session started with an introduction from Frank A. DeNicola, P.E Town of New Canaan Public works Director. Frank shared with us some history of the facility which was originally constructed in 1931 and was one of the first facilities to utilize an activated sludge treatment process. Frank spoke of the issues that the Town faced in and during the upgrade process. Several important issues were identified that needed to be resolved during the design phase. These included the proximity to a residential area, the discovery of hazardous waste in the construction area, low effluent BOD and TSS requirements, and the large septage component. There were also a number of alternatives that were investigated during the preliminary design phase of the project. |

| Following an interesting and informative tour we were all provided with a great lunch and an opportunity for questions and answers. For those of us that attended this was another great opportunity to see processes that we might only have read about in the past. This was a fine chance to see and understand the process one community went through to address issues that face all of us will face at one time or another. |
